Belonging, Participation and School Spirit
The House system is an important part of life at The Cathedral Grammar School, creating a sense of belonging and connection beyond students’ individual classes and year groups.
From Year 1 through to Year 8, every student belongs to a House. The School has four Girls’ Houses and four Boys’ Houses, providing opportunities for students of different ages to come together, build friendships, participate in activities and contribute to their House community.
Building connections across the school
House life creates opportunities for students to connect with others across year levels and develop a strong sense of identity and belonging within the School.
Throughout the year, students represent their Houses in a range of sporting, cultural and school activities. These experiences encourage participation, teamwork, healthy competition and school spirit, while giving students opportunities to contribute to something beyond their own class or year group.
Student leadership
Each House is led by a Year 8 House Captain who plays an important role in encouraging participation, building House spirit and supporting younger students.
House Captains provide visible leadership within the School and have opportunities to develop their communication, organisation and leadership skills while serving their House community.
A place to belong
Whether participating in House events, supporting teammates or celebrating the achievements of others, the House system helps students develop friendships, pride in their School and a sense of connection across year levels.
House life is about more than competition. It is about belonging, participation and contributing to a community in which every student has a place.
