Known, Supported and Encouraged to Thrive
At The Cathedral Grammar School, we believe students thrive when they feel known, valued, safe and connected.
Pastoral care is woven into everyday life at Grammar. Strong relationships between students, staff and families, together with our small class sizes, enable us to know our students as individuals and support their academic, social and emotional wellbeing as they progress from Pre-School through to Year 8.
A strong sense of belonging
Our school structure and close-knit community provide opportunities for students to build meaningful relationships across year levels.
Through Houses, buddy and mentoring programmes, leadership opportunities, Chapel, service and participation in the wider life of the School, students develop friendships, connections and a strong sense of belonging.
Older students are encouraged to support and mentor younger students, developing empathy, responsibility and care for others while strengthening connections across the School.
Pastoral care and support
Pastoral care begins with the people who know our students best.
Teachers work closely with students and families, supported by Heads of School, senior leaders and specialist staff, to ensure students receive appropriate guidance and support when needed.
Our on-site School Counsellor is available to students across all year levels, providing confidential support and a safe space for students who may benefit from additional guidance.
Building skills for life
Wellbeing is also about equipping students with the skills and confidence to navigate challenges, build positive relationships and develop resilience.
Through age-appropriate programmes, mentoring, leadership, service and opportunities for student voice, students develop greater self-awareness, confidence, empathy and responsibility for themselves and others.
In Years 7 and 8, our Performance Pathways programme further supports students to develop practical skills in areas such as goal-setting, mindset, self-talk, managing pressure and resilience, helping prepare them for secondary school and beyond.
Our aim is for every student to feel known, supported and connected, with the confidence and skills to thrive at school and beyond.
