Congratulations to Year 7 student, Anna, who submitted her ANZAC Day poem to the writing challenge posted in the recent Extra Tapiri magazine. Her writing piece has been selected amongst many submissions as the winning poem to be published in their next publication.

The fiery flames are crackling in my ears
Loud trumpets sound across the muddy field
Sounds of the crashing thunder heightens fears
Proud defenders wait on, they will not yield
The getaway passages sabotaged
Weary people crawl out from rubble
Military soldiers in camouflage
Fighting back attackers causing trouble
Ground slipping away, losing my footing
The blazing heat is scorching all my gear
Siege machines loaded and shooting bullets
Families frozen like statues from the fear
The quiet aftermath when all is done
There is no movement but the dying sun
