The Girl Choristers is holding open auditions for girls in years 4-7 to join this highly prestigious group from 2024.

We are seeking new members to bring their voices to worship at Anglican services in a beautiful cathedral setting.

The Cathedral Choir, with boy trebles, has contributed to Anglican worship since 1881. However, the Girls’ Choir of the Christ Church Cathedral was only established in 2020, paving the way for girls to contribute to worship in the Church.

Christ Church Cathedral Choir is the only fully professional choir for trebles and adults in New Zealand and one of only two Anglican cathedral choirs in the Southern Hemisphere with its own choir school, The Cathedral Grammar School.

The Girl Choristers consist of up to 16 girls, aged 8-13, who sing alternate Thursday Evensongs and one Sunday each term. The back row of the choir consists of lay clerks (highly skilled professional singers) and Godley/Wakefield Choral Scholars (secondary school and university students) who sing the alto, tenor, and bass parts.

As a member of our choir, your child will have the opportunity to contribute to and be a part
of inspiring worship experiences, while developing their musical skills and confidence.

Rehearsals are Tuesday to Friday mornings 8:00am – 9:00am during the school term.
