Year 7 First Prize at NIWA Science Fair | Wrybill Supreme Award Finalist Selection | Second place Year 7 ECan Award

We are incredibly proud to celebrate two outstanding achievements by our Year 7 student, Sebastian Diefenbach Oliveira!

Following Sebastian's success in winning the Environment Canterbury (ECan) Year 7 First Prize at the NIWA Science Fair in September, Sebastian was selected as one of just four finalists from across Environment Canterbury's region for the prestigious Wrybill Supreme Award.

As part of this recognition, Sebastian recently had the opportunity to speak before Environment Canterbury councillors, proudly representing Cathedral Grammar and sharing his passion for environmental science.

To be recognised among the region's top four finalists is an exceptional achievement and a wonderful reflection of Sebastian's curiosity, dedication and enthusiasm for scientific discovery.

Congratulations also to Arno, who was awarded second place in the ECan Award, and to Van and Otto, who also proudly exhibited their projects at the NIWA Science Fair. It is wonderful to see our students embracing opportunities to explore their scientific interests and showcase their work.

A special thank you to our Head of Science, Dr Mark Brooke, for his mentorship, encouragement and support of our young scientists.
